Open Source, Big Data Software Eng. – Hive, Phoenix, Presto, Impala

Every day our client oversees up to 75 billion market transactions, using technology powerful enough to
detect potential abuses. The Open Source Software Engineer in Big Data supports this effort by ensuring
that they are able to leverage cutting edge open source big data query tools to effectively access
Petabytes of data in support of our client’s strategic mission.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop features for big data query engines (e.g. Hive, Phoenix, Presto, Impala, Drill)
Actively enhance these projects to support evolving big data requirements and
contribute changes back to the open source community
Be a liaison to other development teams and analysts leveraging big data open source
technologies
Be an active participant in the open source software community including discussion forums,
meetups, and conferences
Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

Demonstrated technical expertise in Object Oriented and database technologies

Proficient in Java and/or C++

Has had contributions accepted into mature and established open source projects cultivated by the

Apache Software Foundation or similar organization

Significant exposure to big data technologies

Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships that improved the quality of work
products.
Should be well organized, thorough, and able to handle competing priorities.
Ability to maintain focus and develop proficiency in new skills rapidly.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
