Manager, Linux & Middleware Operations

We are recruiting for a Manager of Linux & Middleware Operations to lead a team of Engineers, assisting with the architecture, design, implementation, and daily operational management of the Linux & Middleware foundational infrastructure and related application servers. This person will be responsible for forward facing environments, clustering and high availability technologies as well as systems automation and monitoring. The Manager, Linux & Middleware is equally responsible for implementation and support, architecture, and performance evaluation through all phases of a project lifecycle and production operations. This individual will report to the Director of IT Operations.

Additional responsibilities:

•Work with the IT Operations Director to define, implement, and enforce development standards, policies and procedures. This highly-visible role carries significant responsibility for the execution of duties contributing to the architecture, development, testing and production support of strategic enterprise systems, projects and initiatives

•Provide solid leadership and clear direction for the Linux & Middleware Operations team

.Develop and execute resource and staffing plans to ensure efficient use of resources

•Work closely with the Development and R&D teams to co-develop operationally sounds and scalable infrastructure solutions that meet project goals and timelines

•Have experience working with various stakeholders to establish a strategic direction and evolve the Linux & Middleware systems architecture to fulfill the needs of the business

•Technical skills in deploying, maintaining and repairing VMWare and Red Hat Linux Enterprise server environments

•Technical skills in deploying, maintaining and repairing WebSphere and JBOSS in standalone and clustered environments

•Experience with at least three of the following technologies: JAVA Batch, JMS, Mongo, MQSeries, Neo4J, Redis, Resin, Vert.x, Web services

•Strong knowledge of virtualization and presentation server systems to include VMWare 5.x/vSphere/vMotion

•Knowledge and experience with SAN and NAS storage technologies

•Knowledge and experience in architecting failover/replication strategy to support high-availability requirements and disaster recovery


•Minimum 7 years’ experience in building, mentoring and challenging teams with diverse backgrounds and technical competencies

•Experience in staff performance evaluations, training plan development and performance management activities

•Ability to work in a very collaborative and service oriented team environment

•Ability to lead team to achieve continuous improvement and effective use of metrics to communicate status and trends

.Monitor team activity and ensure that all deliverables are on time and within budget and with high quality

Process management:

•Working knowledge of data center and industry best practices such as ITIL and ITSM

•Experience developing repeatable, well-documented operational processes, standards and workflows

•Strong project management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and resource demands

•Actively participate in regular status meetings with other project leads

•Capture and report key metrics to the PMO and senior management


Bachelor’s degree, related technical training/certification or equivalent work experience

•Minimum of 10 years hands-on experience working in server administration and support in a distributed server environment running Middleware and LINUX servers supporting 7/24 online applications

•Minimum 5 years of experience in operations management role supervising teams

•Significant experience in successfully implementing Best Practices IT Operations and Infrastructure architectures and support practices

Solid understanding of Service Oriented Architecture, Continuous Integration and Delivery environment and working knowledge in MS Project, JIRA or other tools and technologies

•Must show a passion for business and technology solutions; Be able to foster and develop the same level of passion for the team

•Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal

•Excellent planning skills with the ability to demonstrate mature, solid and professional problem solving abilities

•Self-starter; Capable of creative and innovative thought and the ability to progress ideas from development through implementation

•Demonstrated experience in tracking project and program status, metrics and in analyzing details to determine trends and measures
