Cognos Systems Architect

The Business Intelligence Solution Architect is responsible for the design and development of reporting products using the Cognos Business Intelligence suite.  This role is expected to produce effective reporting and data analysis tools to enable the critical data needs of  business groups as well as to develop and maintain large-scale Data Warehouse models.  The Business Intelligence Solutions Architect also will lead the BI strategy for the management and design of corporate data delivery initiatives.
Responsibilities
•       Design and construct Cognos reporting solutions, including Framework Manager models, Standard Reports, Dashboards, Dimensional Cubes, Query Studio and other data analysis tools.
•       Support a data warehouse environment using the Netezza Data Warehouse appliance.
•       Develop strategic ETL solutions according to industry best-practices
•       Work closely with internal clients to capture business processes and data requirements.
•       Investigate, evaluate and recommend new or alternative technology solutions.
•       Lead the technical direction of the BI development team.
•       Participate in 24×7 production support.
•       Conduct regular maintenance routines and coordinate upgrade activities as needed.
Requirements
Expert-level competence with Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Suite, including:
Cognos Report Studio
Cognos Framework Manager
Cognos Analysis and Query Studio
Advanced SQL skills
Experience with Enterprise Data Warehouse concepts and ETL tools
Experience working with large data sets, preferably using Oracle, Netezza or Teradata
Experience in both relational and multi-dimensional data modeling and architecture
Knowledge of BI technology trends and best practices
Full life-cycle software development experience
Excellent communication skills
Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong customer service orientation
Cognos 10 experience desired
UNIX (Linux) skills desired

Years of Relevant Experience
•       6+ years of experience with the Cognos BI Suite (can substitute similar experience with reporting tools such as Business Objects, Hyperion, etc)
•       3+ years of experience developing in an Enterprise Data Warehouse environment
•       2+ years in a technical lead role
Education Requirements
•       College degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical training
